The Arun and Chichester Food Partnership are coordinating the first local Good Food Fortnight to take place 20th September – 6th October 2024.
This will be a fortnight of food-related activities and events across the two districts with the aims to:
- celebrate local organisations that improve access to food and alleviate food poverty
- encourage growing, cooking and eating together as a community
- spotlight food businesses that champion local, sustainable and affordable food
- create connections in the community to individuals, groups and businesses committed to improving the local food system
- engage with the wider community through conversations about food and work together to create a good food movement.
We are calling on organisations and businesses in Arun and Chichester to hold an activity or event during the Good Food Fortnight which will be listed in a programme and promoted across the districts. These can be public events, ticketed or invite only – it is entirely up to you! – as long as it meets at least one of the aims above.
It doesn’t have to be something new – we would welcome hearing about activities you already hold as well as one-off events for the fortnight. For example, do you already hold a peer support group, a coffee morning or a lunch club that you could run as a Good Food Fortnight event? Could your food project have an open day to show the public how you operate and encourage volunteers or donors? Could your cafe put on a special menu or start a ‘pay it forward’ scheme? Could your business offer food tastings, a discount or free gift on a specific day or throughout the Food Fortnight?
It also doesn’t have to be something public – could you hold a special food themed assembly at your school, hold an office bake sale and donate the takings to a local food project, have a shared meal or challenge your household to reduce their food waste? We want to hear from individuals as well as organisations about what small actions we can take part in to improve our local food system.
You also may have noticed these are the same dates as the national British Food Fortnight. We are keen to celebrate locally produced food and champion our local food industry so if you are already running an activity for British Food Fortnight let us know and we can promote it as part of our programme.
If you would like to take part or to find out more, please complete this short form or email us on hello@arunchifood.org.uk and we will get back to you.
We need to have time to promote the activities to the public ASAP so please register your event as soon as possible, and no later than Thursday 15th August 2024.
